bedrooms, all ensuite, on ground, 1st, 2nd & 3rd floors. we know who lived here in 1262, though these days the manor is more comfortable offering 3 reception rooms with big log fires, large victorian summer conservatory, spacious kitchen and pleasant country gardens complete with private parking. the house restful rambling medieval manor house in rural valley 2 miles from england’s only unesco world heritage site, the ‘city of bath’. the manor house is classified as a ‘british ancient monument’ and is in a recognised ‘area of outstanding natural beauty’. documented in the domesday book of 1086 this is probably the oldest home in england, alice de fford lived here in 1262! we have eight ensuite bedrooms individually styled each spacious and comfortable with 4 poster and king sized beds, flat screen tv’s, dvds and a fridge. we offer free private parking for 10 cars, lounges with open log fires, including a tudor inglenook fireplace from 1539, gardens and a victorian conservatory where you can all dine together in summer by candlelight. we provide free wifi, a dvd library and a quiet location at the end of a no-through road. you have full use of the kitchen for cooking. we used to run a restaurant here so it is well kitted out with big oven as well as aga in winter, or you can eat at the cafe on the canal or at the local country pub. bike, boat hire and golf available 5 mins away. fabulous rural walks along the brook or the canal on the doorstep and a gastropub 4 mins amble along the lane. bedrooms / sleeping we have two suites of interconnecting bedrooms dating from medieval and tudor times. the suite on the second floor, the tudor wing, can accommodate five people: king sized 4 poster in one room, double and single bed in the second, with 2 bathrooms, one wet room shower and one bath, and 2 tvs which suits families or a group of friends. the garden suite of interconnecting bedrooms is on the ground floor and has access through french windows onto the garden. accessible from both the drawing and dining rooms, this suite can sleep 4 in one king sized and one double bed. both medieval bedrooms share a wet room shower/wc and have stone floors covered in carpets and ancient beams. the other four bedrooms are located on the first and third floors. the first floor bridal suite has a king sized 4 poster bed and spacious wet room. the neighbouring willow room has a king sized bed and double shower ensuite. it also has a double futon if extra bed space is required. the third floor, accessed by a 400 year old wide spiral staircase, offers the delightfully light and spacious silk room overlooking the conservatory and wooded hillside beyond. it provides a double bed under a balinese canopy, a double sofa bed, old stone fireplace, massive with a church, pub and school. it is the nearest village to the city of bath (2.5 mls) but has a rural feel with rows of cottages, fields and a brook. the manor is at the bottom of a no through road. it is the last house in somerset as the brook marks the boundary with wiltshire. getting around taxis are about £10 into bath. there is a bus service every two hours to and from the pub, 4 mins away or a bus every 10 mins from the a36 road which is a 10 min walk from the manor. we are on the sustrans cycle path and the kennet and avon canal with cycling and walking tow path and boat hire is 10
